We Offer a Range of Services to Meet The Needs of Youth

We are thrilled to offer you a wide range of services, and the best is that we keep adding more every week! Check out just a few of the amazing services we have in store for you.

Juvenile Mentorship

Our mentorship programs are carefully crafted to empower young individuals as they navigate their healing journey. We understand the importance of aftercare for our youth, so we extend our services even after they complete the program.

Each youth is paired with a dedicated mentor committed to their well-being. These mentors prioritize physical visitations to establish a strong connection and schedule regular weekly one-on-one sessions to check in and provide guidance. The mentorship experience is personalized and tailored to meet the unique needs of each mentee.

In addition to individual sessions, we offer weekly cipher group sessions where our youth can come together for open discussions. These group sessions are a safe space for sharing experiences, seeking advice, and building community among the participants. It fosters a supportive environment where young individuals can express themselves freely and learn from one another.

Diverse Transitional Housing

Our housing, known as MAZE Transitional Housing, plays a crucial role in supporting youth who are on the path to recovery from the traumatic experience of sex trafficking. It serves as a beacon of hope and a haven for these survivors, offering much more than a place to stay. Working hand in hand with MAZE Juvenile Justice, this facility operates as a specialized recovery hospital, providing a holistic approach to healing and rehabilitation.

At MAZE Transitional Housing, the well-being and security of our residents are our top priorities. With round-the-clock security provided by MGS and a dedicated staff trained to address the unique needs of each individual, we ensure a safe and supportive environment for all. Our houses are intentionally unmarked and kept confidential to protect the privacy and safety of our youth, shielding them from potential harm or exploitation.

Every aspect of our program is designed with the utmost care and consideration for the vulnerable population we serve. From emergency care to long-term support, we are committed to offering comprehensive services that empower survivors to reclaim their lives and build a brighter future.

Pre-Juvenile Youth Post Incarceration

The prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among young individuals within confinement facilities is a significant concern, affecting a substantial proportion of the youth population in such environments. Studies have shown that between one-third to one-half of all youth in confinement facilities have been diagnosed with PTSD, highlighting the alarming extent of this mental health condition among incarcerated youth. It is noteworthy that the rates of PTSD are consistently higher in girls compared to boys, shedding light on potential gender differences in the experience and impact of trauma among young individuals in confinement.

Furthermore, these prevalence rates of PTSD among incarcerated youth mirror those observed in mental health and substance abuse treatment systems, underscoring the complex interplay between trauma, mental health issues, and substance use disorders in this vulnerable population. Addressing the mental health needs of incarcerated youth, particularly about PTSD, is crucial for promoting their overall well-being and successful reintegration into society upon release.

In line with these challenges, there is a growing emphasis on reducing juvenile recidivism rates, preventing the cycle of youth incarceration, and developing effective exit-tier programs that empower young individuals toward self-sufficiency. By providing comprehensive support services, including mental health interventions tailored to address PTSD and other trauma-related issues, we can work towards breaking the cycle of incarceration and fostering positive outcomes for youth involved in the justice system. These efforts benefit the individual youth, build safer communities, and promote long-term positive societal outcomes.

Academic & Training Centers

Youth Programs play a crucial role in equipping young individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the challenges of transitioning into adulthood successfully. These programs go beyond just education and job training; they also focus on instilling values, fostering personal development, and building resilience in young people. By offering a comprehensive approach to learning, Youth Programs aim to empower youth to make informed decisions.

Academic and Training Centers serve as vital hubs that cater to the needs of high-risk youth, offering a supportive community environment where individuals can thrive academically and personally. These centers go above and beyond by providing access to top-tier educational resources, mentorship programs, and specialized training to ensure that youth are well-prepared for the responsibilities and challenges of independence. By fostering a sense of belonging and offering tailored support, Academic and Training Centers play a pivotal role in shaping the future of young individuals and empowering them to reach their full potential.

On any given day, nearly 60,000 youth under age 18 are incarcerated in juvenile jails and prisons in the United States. Each state shows the number of youth incarcerated per 100,000 people. But in every state, confining young people – cutting them off from their families, disrupting their educations, and often exposing them to further trauma and violence – harms their development and has lifelong negative consequences.

When youth under 18 commit a delinquent or criminal act, depending upon the severity of that crime, how youth are handled is crucial.  Most youths are typically processed through a juvenile justice system, only for the following to occur:

- Arrested or detained,

- Petitioned for a hearing,

-Adjudications, dispositions, placement, probation, and reentry—

The juvenile justice process is fundamentally different from adults in terms of the level of responsibility and potential for rehabilitation that may mirror, but the objective differs.  The primary goals of the juvenile justice system, in addition to maintaining public safety, are skill development, habilitation, rehabilitation, addressing treatment needs, and successful reintegration of youth into the community.

Legal- Aid

MAZE Legalaid Dept. (MLD) is a dynamic and ambitious organization currently in the initial stages of its establishment. Despite being in the early phases of development, we are excited to announce that we are on a mission to become a leading advocate for marginalized groups, particularly incarcerated youth, individuals on parole, and survivors of youth trafficking. Our core objective is to be a powerful voice for these vulnerable communities, ensuring that their rights are recognized and protected.

In addition to offering legal assistance and guidance to those in need, we are deeply committed to instigating systemic changes within the justice system. Our goal is to spearhead reforms and policy modifications that will positively impact incarcerated youth, ultimately improving their overall well-being. Through our unwavering dedication, we seek to catalyze significant shifts in the legal landscape, with a specific focus on enhancing the protection and support available to young individuals who have been impacted by incarceration and trafficking. Our vision is to create a more just and equitable society where all individuals' rights, especially those often overlooked, are safeguarded and upheld.

Community Partnering

MAZE Youth Advocacy (MYA) has taken proactive steps to adapt to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. With the decrease in youth facilities, there is a growing concern about the potential increase in the reentry and recidivism rates among young individuals. Many of these youths who have reoffended are at risk of being funneled into the adult prison system.

In response to this pressing issue, MYA has implemented innovative strategies to cater to the evolving needs of these vulnerable youths. These new measures aim to provide comprehensive support and guidance to help prevent further involvement in the criminal justice system.

The evolving landscape has necessitated MYA to reassess how it serves its diverse clientele. This includes youth aged 13-19 from all demographics and socioeconomic backgrounds, organizations such as Parole, Detention Centers, and State Schools, and involvement from School Districts, including Alternative Schools.

As part of the revamped approach, MYA has made it mandatory for partners to engage in the registration process and sign Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective collaboration. These formal agreements are crucial in fostering strong partnerships and aligning efforts towards a common goal of supporting at-risk youth.

If you are interested in exploring potential collaboration opportunities with MYA to positively impact the lives of young individuals facing challenges, please email us. Together, we can work towards creating a safer and more supportive environment for vulnerable youth.
