Advocating For Youth Juvenile Justice & Reforms

Juvenile Reform

Juvenile justice reform aims to improve the justice system by ensuring fair treatment, holding youth accountable, and helping them become successful adults. Some fundamental principles of juvenile justice reform include:

- Using evidence-based practices

- Implementing rational reforms

- Considering the developmental realities of adolescence

- Limiting out-of-home placement

- Keeping more young people out of criminal courts

- Reinvesting in community-based services

Some examples of juvenile justice reform include:

- Removing court jurisdiction over many school-based offenses

- Creating a fiscal incentive for counties to encourage diversion

- Limiting placement lengths to three to six months

- Closing large institutions and reinvesting in community-based programs

- Transferring responsibility from the state to the counties

Help join the fight, we're got alot of work to do!
